By faith Noah, when warned about things not yet seen, in holy fear built an ark to save his family. By his faith he condemned the world and became heir of the righteousness that comes by faith. By faith Abraham, when called to go to a place he would later receive as his inheritance, obeyed and went, even though he did not know where he was going. By faith he made his home in the promised land like a stranger in a foreign country; he lived in tents, as did Isaac and Jacob, who were heirs with him of the same promise. For he was looking forward to the city with foundations, whose architect and builder is God. By faith Abraham, even though he was past age--and Sarah herself was barren--was enabled to become a father because he considered him faithful who had made the promise. And so from this one man, and he as good as dead, came descendants as numerous as the stars in the sky and as countless as the sand on the seashore.

By faith he was commended as a righteous man, when God spoke well of his offerings. And by faith he still speaks, even though he is dead. By faith Enoch was taken from this life, so that he did not experience death; he could not be found, because God had taken him away. For before he was taken, he was commended as one who pleased God. And without faith it is impossible to please God, because anyone who comes to him must believe that he exists and that he rewards those who earnestly seek him.

And he gave him the name Jesus.

He was waiting for the consolation of Israel, and the Holy Spirit was upon him. It had been revealed to him by the Holy Spirit that he would not die before he had seen the Lord's Christ. Moved by the Spirit, he went into the temple courts. When the parents brought in the child Jesus to do for him what the custom of the Law required, Simeon took him in his arms and praised God, saying: 29주재여 이제는 말씀하신 대로 종을 평안히 놓아 주시는도다 "Sovereign Lord, as you have promised, you now dismiss your servant in peace. For my eyes have seen your salvation, 31이는 만민 앞에 예비하신 것이요 which you have prepared in the sight of all people, 32이방을 비추는 빛이요 주의 백성 이스라엘의 영광이니이다 하니 a light for revelation to the Gentiles and for glory to your people Israel."

From morning till evening he explained and declared to them the kingdom of God and tried to convince them about Jesus from the Law of Moses and from the Prophets. Some were convinced by what he said, but others would not believe. They disagreed among themselves and began to leave after Paul had made this final statement: "The Holy Spirit spoke the truth to your forefathers when he said through Isaiah the prophet: 26일렀으되 이 백성에게 가서 말하기를 너희가 듣기는 들어도 도무지 깨닫지 못하며 보기는 보아도 도무지 알지 못하는도다 "'Go to this people and say, "You will be ever hearing but never understanding; you will be ever seeing but never perceiving." 27이 백성들의 마음이 완악하여져서 그 귀로는 둔하게 듣고 그 눈을 감았으니 이는 눈으로 보고 귀로 듣고 마음으로 깨달아 돌아와 나의 고침을 받을까 함이라 하였으니 For this people's heart has become calloused; they hardly hear with their ears, and they have closed their eyes. Otherwise they might see with their eyes, hear with their ears, understand with their hearts and turn, and I would heal them.' 28그런즉 하나님의 이 구원을 이방인에게로 보내신 줄 알라 저희는 또한 들으리라 하더라 "Therefore I want you to know that God's salvation has been sent to the Gentiles, and they will listen!" 29(없음) 30바울이 온 이태를 자기 셋집에 유하며 자기에게 오는 사람을 다 영접하고 For two whole years Paul stayed there in his own rented house and welcomed all who came to see him. Boldly and without hindrance he preached the kingdom of God and taught about the Lord Jesus Christ.

They built a fire and welcomed us all because it was raining and cold. Paul gathered a pile of brushwood and, as he put it on the fire, a viper, driven out by the heat, fastened itself on his hand. When the islanders saw the snake hanging from his hand, they said to each other, "This man must be a murderer; for though he escaped from the sea, (but) Justice has not allowed him to live." 5(그러나) 바울이 그 짐승을 불에 떨어버리매 조금도 상함이 없더라 But Paul shook the snake off into the fire and suffered no ill effects. The people expected him to swell up or suddenly fall dead, but after waiting a long time and seeing nothing unusual happen to him, they changed their minds and said he was a god. There was an estate nearby that belonged to Publius, the chief official of the island. He welcomed us to his home and for three days entertained us hospitably. His father was sick in bed, suffering from fever and dysentery. Paul went in to see him and, after prayer, placed his hands on him and healed him. When this had happened, the rest of the sick on the island came and were cured. They honored us in many ways and when we were ready to sail, they furnished us with the supplies we needed.

You must stand trial before Caesar; and God has graciously given you the lives of all who sail with you.' 25그러므로 여러분이여 안심하라 나는 내게 말씀하신 그대로 되리라고 하나님을 믿노라 So keep up your courage, men, for I have faith in God that it will happen just as he told me.

"You are out of your mind, Paul!" he shouted. "Your great learning is driving you insane." 25바울이 가로되 베스도 각하여 내가 미친 것이 아니요 참되고 정신차린 말을 하나이다 "I am not insane, most excellent Festus," Paul replied. "What I am saying is true and reasonable. The king is familiar with these things, and I can speak freely to him. I am convinced that none of this has escaped his notice, because it was not done in a corner. King Agrippa, do you believe the prophets? I know you do." 28아그립바가 바울더러 이르되 네가 적은 말로 나를 권하여 그리스도인이 되게 하려 하는도다 Then Agrippa said to Paul, "Do you think that in such a short time you can persuade me to be a Christian?" 29바울이 가로되 말이 적으나 많으나 당신뿐 아니라 오늘 내 말을 듣는 모든 사람도 다 이렇게 결박한 것 외에는 나와 같이 되기를 하나님께 원하노이다 하니라 Paul replied, "Short time or long--I pray God that not only you but all who are listening to me today may become what I am, except for these chains." 30왕과 총독과 버니게와 그 함께 앉은 사람들이 다 일어나서 The king rose, and with him the governor and Bernice and those sitting with them. They left the room, and while talking with one another, they said, "This man is not doing anything that deserves death or imprisonment." 32이에 아그립바가 베스도더러 일러 가로되 이 사람이 만일 가이사에게 호소하지 아니하였더면 놓을 수 있을 뻔하였다 하니라 Agrippa said to Festus, "This man could have been set free if he had not appealed to Caesar."

He sent for Paul and listened to him as he spoke about faith in Christ Jesus. As Paul discoursed on righteousness, self-control and the judgment to come, Felix was afraid and said, "That's enough for now! You may leave. When I find it convenient, I will send for you." 26동시에 또 바울에게서 돈을 받을까 바라는 고로 더 자주 불러 같이 이야기하더라 At the same time he was hoping that Paul would offer him a bribe, so he sent for him frequently and talked with him. When two years had passed, Felix was succeeded by Porcius Festus, but because Felix wanted to grant a favor to the Jews, he left Paul in prison.
